Process to Become an Accrediting Organization

- Define Standards & Criteria
- Establish clear academic, operational, and ethical standards for schools seeking accreditation.
- Align with national education guidelines (e.g., U.S. Department of Education, regional accrediting bodies).
- Form an Accrediting Organization
- Create a governing body with experts in education, administration, and compliance.
- Develop policies, procedures, and an evaluation framework.
- Obtain Recognition
- Seek recognition from the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for credibility.
- Apply for state or federal approval if necessary.
- Develop the Accreditation Process
- Set up an application, review, and site visit process.
- Establish a system for continuous monitoring and reaccreditation.
- Pilot & Refine
- Accredit a small group of schools to test the program.
- Adjust policies based on feedback before expanding.
MACTE
Accreditation Process Timeline
- Before beginning the application, program must select and MRO and read the Guide to Accreditation
- The program receives access to the MACTE portal after the application is received and the application fee has been paid
- The Program has 2 years to complete the Self Study
- The Self- Study is entered into the queue for review
- Review process begins 4-6 months after the Self-Study is submitted
- Full review process takes 3 months, on average
- On-site visits are scheduled after the review process is complete
- On-site visits are schedules for 3+ months after review is complete
- The MACTE Board votes on the accreditation decision at the first board meeting following the on-site visit.
- Board meetings are held monthly.
